The Daily Grind: What routine tasks do you frequently forget in MMOs?

Eye see.

If you never played it back in the day, Final Fantasy XI was often a game of chores. Did you remember to get food? Did you bring your prism powder and silent oil? Did you get your spells for your next couple level-ups? Of course you didn’t. Of course someone in your leveling party forgot some of these things, and what followed next was someone helping them because no matter what, someone forgot some of these.

No, you do not get to know which of these chores I routinely forgot to do.

The funny thing is, though, is the forgetters weren’t necessarily bad players. People would forget these things despite being good players who were otherwise reliable and fun and smart. We all forget to do certain routine tasks, and then days later we remember we forgot to water our in-game plants or turn in daily quests or whatever. So what routine task do you frequently forget in your MMOs of choice, no matter how trivial?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!

I completely forgot STO’s summer event this year? Does that count?
I logged in on day one and then… everything else got in the way.
So many games, so little time.

The Fo76 perk system doesn’t distinguish between damage, utility or crafting perks so I have a perk load-out for crafting, repairing and vendoring and another for combat. 3/7 days this week I’ve shown up to at least one scorchbeast queen fight in my crafting loadout.

I’ll frequently forget to do “once per day” crafting tasks in Warframe. Forma (which are a thing that you use to improve Warframes and weapons by allowing you to install more “points” worth of mods in the same fixed slots) take about 23 hours to craft. I’ll often forget to claim the one that was running and start a new one.

I’ll also sometimes forget to do the daily login for whatever “special” event is running in Star Trek Online. Because there’s *ALWAYS* a special event running now. So much so that they even created a new type that they can run for just a week to fill any gaps between “real” events. :(

The amount of times I’d forget to stock up on arrows on my Classic WoW hunter before a dungeon run….

.. or repair, especially after multiple wipes. Broken armor just meant some stats. Broken bow meant standing there looking dumber than usual ;P

I’ve played ESO for years and my main still hasn’t maxed out speed or carrying capacity or stamina. I might remember the stable once a week.

I often forget a routine task that I do not think I should have to do in the first place. At least not as frequently.

I love the VIP bonuses LOTRO added last year, but needing to get the items again every 2 days can be a real pain. Especially when you log off somewhere that does not have a milestone nearby.

I do not know the exact reasoning behind the 48-hour limit, but I really wish it would be pushed to be more like 5 days or a week.

I really hate when something I am playing for fun gives me busy work.

Or just tick down based on time *played* and not “real world hours since you got this thing.” Warframe has boosters that tick down in real time, and it seriously annoys me. “Buy a three day booster. It’s the smallest one, even though we know most people will only get three *hours* of actual playtime out of it. And maybe not even that, if you forget to log in for a day. Enjoy!”
