It’s time for another release for Shroud of the Avatar full of… random things. Things like pet gear, platforms to put stuff on top of, scarecrow enemies, and an upcoming new town. As is often the case with this game’s updates, Release 95 is kind of all over the map.

Included in this release is the ability for players to find 12 different recipes for Collar, Toy, and Accessory pet gear, each tuned for tanking or DPS pet needs. The patch notes provide specific locations where these recipes can be found. Speaking of craftable things, players can now create platforms to put stuff on to a pedestal and create the game’s first buildable trap in the form of a lava pool.

For those who are looking for a seasonal spook to fight, the release has also added a new scarecrow enemy that can be found at a farm on the edge of South Quel Woods. There’s also a variety of other enemies and enemy updates added in the new release.

Finally of note, the post offers a preview of Castle Atos, a new location is coming soon to Novia. This is just the tip of a very erratic iceberg of loot changes, item adjustments, skill tweaks, and more, so settle in for another long read.

Longtime MOP readers will know that Shroud of the Avatar is a controversial game in the MMO space. Kickstarted in 2013, the game and its original studio have been criticized for cutting promised features, crowdfunding excessively, delaying Kickstarter rewards, obfuscating its corporate leadership and office status, and neglecting SEC filings legally required by the game’s equity crowdfunding. In 2019, Richard Garriott’s company Portalarium sold off SOTA to its lead dev and all but exited the game. Press inquires have repeatedly been met with stonewalling and insults, and equity crowdfund investors were seemingly abandoned without notice, but the game does still have players and is still being developed, as we continue to cover.
