PlanetSide 2 announces continued work on its new continent of Oshur after a three year-long delay

Do you remember back in 2018 when PlanetSide 2 announced it was working on a new continent? Do you also remember when that continent never materialized? We remember, and so do the devs at Daybreak’s Rogue Planet, which is good because they’re announcing that work on the new continent is finally picking back up after what turned out to be a three-year development focus on existing features rather than all-new content.

Just as before, the new continent is called Oshur, a set of tropical islands that is being designed with an eye on returning the game “to its roots,” meaning that travel, strategy, and logistics will play a major factor in order to navigate the islands, build beachheads, and guard open field capture points, though the continent will also feature dev-crafted bases as well.

As one might expect, there will be plenty of water around Oshur as well, but this time players will be able to navigate beneath the waves, as most land and air vehicles can traverse the depths, though weapons won’t be operable when underwater. Infantry will be able to swim underwater too but can engage in combat only with a couple of specific weapons, so the sea is less about fighting and more about traversal.

A release date for this new content hasn’t been confirmed, but the post does state that plans are for Oshur to be available sometime by the end of the year. In the meantime, fans can tune in to a livestream on Wednesday, November 17th, at 5:00 p.m. EST for a gameplay preview as well as a ninth anniversary celebration.
