The Daily Grind: Do you play MMO classes when you know they suck?

Back in March, I did a Daily Grind about MMO classes that needed a nerf, specifically homing in on Lord of the Rings Online’s Hunters, since mine is absurdly overpowered, and I was pretty sure it isn’t down to anything special I am doing. In the course of the conversation about that, several readers mentioned going out of their way to avoid classes that were overpowered, instead choosing the weakest classes on purpose, and since I have guildies who do this – and have done it myself – I thought it was worth exploring.

Maybe you do it because you want to feel special or rare. Or maybe you do it because you’d be in more demand because of a unique set of skills. Maybe you’re doing it for the challenge, or maybe it’s just because you just don’t care about what’s popular and just want to play the thing you like.

Do you play MMO classes when you know they suck?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
