Sometimes life is difficult. I don’t mean regular everyday challenges; I mean things happen like your parents die or your romantic partner leaves or you lose your job. Something really bad happens, and you have to struggle to hold yourself together. And we all find our solace where it comes, and for some people that’s in the bonds that are forged in MMOs and the things you enjoy doing in-game.

Obviously, MMOs do not solve anyone’s life problems. But sometimes they serve well as a life preserver, as something to cling to and to help us keep our head above water at difficult times. The friendships we make are what give us the emotional support and wherewithal to keep going even if things seem rather pointless, and later on we can look back and say that we’re glad we had that game and those people in our lives at that time.

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
