The “president of League” and superstar rapper Lil Nas X has delivered on one of the promised portions of his collaboration with League of Legends as the anthem he’s created for the MOBA’s Worlds 2022 esports championship, Star Walkin’, has now been released online.

The music video for the song brings together the city of San Francisco, where the event is being held, and LOL esports pros past and present, some of whom ride atop the shoulders of mechanical kaiju because why not. Animation for the video comes from animation studio The Line, which has done features for LOL before.

“Star Walkin’ perfectly captures the relentless competitive drive of our pros,” says Riot’s global head of esports creative Carrie Dunn in a statement. “The Worlds Anthem comes with high expectations. It needs to inspire our pros, hype our fans, and prepare a live stadium audience of thousands – and a broadcast of millions – for the ultimate competitive showdown. And I can confidently say Star Walkin’ did just that.”

Regardless of how one feels about LOL or esports, we have to agree that it’s a banger of a song, and you can watch it in the video below.

Riot Games is considered a controversial company in the gaming world following a 2018 exposé of the sexual discrimination and harassment inherent in what workers described as its “bro culture.” The scandal brought forth accusations against multiple developers and high-ranking executives and ultimately led to a developer labor dispute and walk-out. Former workers and the state of California, which alleged that Riot was refusing to cooperate with its investigation, lodged lawsuits though Riot settled with one victims’ group at the end of 2021 for over $100M.
