The Daily Grind: How can MMO devs make tank classes more interesting?

Sometimes Daily Grind topics blossom from extended conversations in the Massively OP office. And indeed, the other day we were tossing back and forth the topic of how dull tank classes are to play — and what MMO designers could possibly do to make meat shields more interesting.

It’s not to say that such a feat has never been done. One example that quickly leaped to mind was City of Heroes’ diverse tanker archetypes that used fantastic theming and different play mechanics to fill this role.

Anyway, from our heads to yours! Do you play a tank? Are you happy with the gameplay or do you see a way for devs to improve it? How can studios make tanks more interesting?
