There’s absolutely nothing wrong with not wanting to do challenging content in any given MMO; that’s just not what everyone is there for. But all of us have certain content that is challenging for us, even if it’s not the biggest challenge in the game. Depending on reaction time, comfort with other people, the size of your friend group, and just what you want to accomplish, there is always something out there that will be a challenge for you to take part in. The question is what motivates you to complete it.
For some people, it’s the challenge in and of itself: There’s a challenge in front of you, there’s a mountain to climb, now’s the time to climb it. For others it’s a specific reward, like a mount, or a minion, or a title. Other times it’s social pressure, and let’s not forget the allure of making your character more powerful with stronger gear. If you stripped out all but your one motivation, what motivates you to complete challenging content in MMOs?
