By now, pretty much every MMORPG (especially the fantasy ones) has settled into the comfortable groove of armor classifications. There are heavy-medium-light, or plate-mail-leather-cloth, or other similar breakdowns. Some titles (like New World) let you choose which type of armor you most prefer, while most others tie the selection to your class.
MMO armor types impact more than just our level of protection: They make up a big part of our character’s visual footprint. I’ve found that this can be a rather influential factor in choosing a class. Leather wearers are my favorite, with plate my least — all for the visuals.
