We’ve certainly talked a lot in this space about the special joy that is coming back to an old favorite MMORPG and falling in love with it all over again. Sometimes, indeed, absence breeds fondness and allows for a renewed sense of adventure.

But there’s a darker flip-side to coming back to MMOs that perhaps we don’t acknowledge as much, which is when you return to find that the game you once loved is no longer that lovely. Maybe you’ve outgrown it, maybe too many changes have been made, or maybe the community that made it special has moved on to new hunting grounds.

Have you ever returned to an MMO to find that the magic is gone? What game was it and how did you deal with the disappointment?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
