Destiny 2: Lightfall ‘surpasses sales expectations’ as Bungie apologizes for ‘missing the mark’ on goals

Without citing specific numbers, Bungie said that the recent release of Destiny 2: Lightfall drove a major spike in the game’s population and activity. This comes as the studio reflects on the rollout of the expansion and how it’s responding to player feedback in the coming months.

“With Lightfall’s launch, Destiny 2 saw its highest number of concurrent players in years,” Bungie said. “We welcomed more New Lights, returning players, and daily active players than we did with The Witch Queen’s launch last year. We surpassed our sales expectations for a new expansion.”

Game Director Joe Blackburn admitted that the studio “didn’t provide full clarity” on Guardian Ranks and “missed the mark on some of [its] goals.” To address this, Bungie is allowing players to renew Guardian Ranks season over season rather than resetting back to zero. Other changes include the addition of a seasonal history to players’ UI and making it easier to climb past rank 6.

Blackburn highlighted other areas of needed improvement, such as difficulty adjustments, HP tuning, Heist battleground pacing, Neomuna patrol zones, Terminal Overload matchmaking, and the solo Lost Sectors endgame content.
