Nexon Q2 2024: Dungeon & Fighter Mobile drives a record financial quarter

The parade of financial reports continues this afternoon with Nexon’s Q2 2024, which saw record revenues for the gaming company thanks to Chinese mobile gamers.

“Nexon delivered record-high Q2 results driven by Dungeon & Fighter Mobile in China, which launched on May 21 and sustained the top grossing position on China’s iOS chart for more than 11 weeks – making it one of the most successful mobile releases in that country’s history,” the company say. “Q2 revenue was Â¥122.5 billion, up 30% year over year on an as-reported basis and up 19% on a constant-currency basis, which exceeded our outlook. Operating income exceeded our expectations – up 64% year over year to Â¥45.2 billion, driven by significant revenue outperformance, while recording higher-than-expected performance-based bonuses.”

MapleStory was also a key factor in the company’s revenues last quarter, though Nexon warns that the Korean PC version will see a big revenue drop next quarter in comparison to Q3 2023. That’s not true for the western version, however, as the company talks up record double-digit growth compared to last year and expectations for another increase next quarter.

Also notable for westerners is the nod to “contributions” from The Finals, which Nexon says is “within the expected range” for revenues. The company promises to “continue to enhance the game experience through improvements in the balance and game modes.” Likewise, this quarter does not include revenues from The First Descendant, which rolled out at the top of July, so Nexon will count those figures in Q3.

In the pipeline of note, we’re looking at ARC Raiders still coming, MapleStory N, Mabinogi Mobile (Korea only), and Vindictus Defying Fate. Nice to see that ol’ Vindictus logo brought out of storage.
