Last year we reported on the arrival of emulator files for Marvel Heroes appearing on Github, effectively letting fans begin the process of reviving the much-loved MMOARPG from its 2020 sunset. Today brings some good news, as the fan devs behind the project have released the 0.3.0 build of the emu files, which gets many playable features functioning for server runners.
The release notes and associated video highlight what this current stable release offers, including AoE and increased held button damage functionality for powers, working enemy AI, character leveling, functioning pets and team-ups, and loot tables along with inventory persistence. Details on how the team got through some of the technical hurdles associated with this release build were shared in a blog at the end of August.
Of course this doesn’t mean that every portion of the game is operational: The roadmap for the project points out work to get missions running in the next stable release sometime in December, while future file releases planned for every three months will work on things like parties, power procs, and the infinity/omega system. Even so, efforts by fan devs during this summer brought some very impressive progress indeed.
