WRUP: Auditioning replacement Eliots edition

So it turned out from our last week’s entry that our original plan of relying upon copious volumes of pre-written content by Eliot was going to cause some problems. Fortunately for us, we watched an out-of-context clip from Deadpool & Wolverine and figured that there was an obvious solution where we just go to a parallel universe and get ourselves an alternate version of Eliot to write What Are You Playing. Sure, that version is probably not going to be happy about the life he’s getting dropped into, but we don’t particularly care. So we sent out a bunch of expeditions to find ourselves a spare Eliot.

It did not go well.

Here were the notes:

  • “I know Eliot wanted the idea of Alligator Eliot showing up, but Alligator Eliot is a bit more alligator and a lot less Eliot.”
  • “Girl Eliot is really mean and I don’t want her, I’m going to go cry a lot.”
  • “So the good news is there is an Eliot in one of the DC universes, but the one we found is half-demon and also kinda doing… stuff. That one isn’t eligible.”
  • “Scratch that, there is a second Girl Eliot. The second one is actually way meaner. She shot me in the shin.”
  • “Horse Universe is unbelievably boring and I’m not finding an Eliot here.”
  • “Did you know there’s a Steampunk Universe? I learned that today. I do not care for it and do not wish to go back.”
  • Why are so many of them girls and why are all of them mean?!
  • “Glug.” [This was from Tyler, whom we accidentally sent to Ocean Universe; it turns out there was very little land there and… well, things happened. He’s fine. Probably. -Ed.]
  • “Can we get Writer Hugh Jackman instead? He’s really fun and has a better singing voice.”
  • “WHO THOUGHT IT WOULD BE FUNNY TO SEND ME TO SWARMS OF SPIDERS UNIVERSE?!”
  • “I thought I found one but it turns out that was the Eliot Universe. Holy crap that was unpleasant.”

In other words, we’re still kind of up a creek. We’ll figure this out next week or something, I don’t know.

Bonus question: What was your Thursday like?

Andrew Ross (@dengarsw): Oof, I’m already drowning in work, but I’ll obviously have to hit up my exercise games to burn off some calories.

I was pretty good on Thursday, though doing the usual holiday stuff with an 80-pound, bird-loving pup begging to be let into the kitchen was a bit rough. At least the family drama was at an all time minimum for the first time in ages, yay!

Brianna Royce (@nbrianna.bsky.social, blog): So I’ve been playing a bit of Guild Wars 2, and I wanna do some honse stuff in The Sims 4 before the weekend is out too.

On Thanksgiving, I cranked out 13 articles for December (I use it as a catch-up day) and made a bunch of Christmas presents (custom shirts for the kids) and did some work on my current putter project (making a custom jewelry box) and finished my Guild Wars 2 weeklies (hey, MMOs). Oh and we ate pie. Peanut butter cup cheesecake pie. So good. Tomorrow? Tree time.

Chris Neal (@wolfyseyes.bsky.social, blog): I’ve got another random hankering for some Star Wars: The Old Republic simply because… well, because. I’m also probably going to dip into some Final Fantasy XIV, some Red Dead Online with the family, and probably a spot of City of Heroes: Homecoming.

I cooked my absolute nugget off, and then ate until I became extremely round. I cam typing this from the apotheosis state that a combination of a full belly and an extremely well-earned exhaustion can bring.

Eliot Lefebvre (@Eliot_Lefebvre, blog): As per usual, I’m going to be working on FFXIV stuff and also working a little bit on a game I need to review. Beyond that, however, I’ve been actually really enjoying going back through some of the older Final Fantasy games, so I’ll be working my way through Final Fantasy V in its pixel remaster form.

So on paper, my Thanksgiving was incredibly normal – my sister cooked and I went over for dinner with her and my mother. This probably sounds very banal. However… this is the first time that the three of us have had a Thanksgiving together under one roof in at least 20 years. So that was actually a really big deal. I’m struggling a lot with my mental health right now for various reasons, but that was really important.

Sam Kash (@samkash@mastodon.social): I just began playing Sea Of Stars last night. It’s more than just reminiscent of Secret of Mana. We’ll see how good the story ends up being but the writing is tight through the intro. I played through the tutorial of Throne and Liberty. I’ve really been enjoying it and I can see it clicking well as a duo play. But the schedule has been really tight so we’ll see if I can get her to play with me.

Bonus: Thursday was good. Played a bunch of board games in the morning. Followed up with some paper airplanes and then lots and lots of food. A fun time all around.

Tyler Edwards (blog): My theme right now is returning to games that I’d taken a break from because I was grumpy with the choices developers had made. The Sultans Ascend expansion for Age of Empires 4 finally went on a deep enough discount for me to buy in, so I’ve been playing the campaign from that (it’s very good). I’m also getting back into New World and clearing up the quests in Cutlass Keys. Good news: They’re more challenging than the quests in Elysian Wilds were. Bad news: They are largely the same as they were before the revamp, so the quest flow is quite poor.

Bonus question: I have a cold, so Thursday mostly involved sleeping in, playing video games, and getting in some serious sniffling and shivering.
