World of Warcraft’s Siren Isle update goes live this evening with a new zone and Plunderstorm

Is World of Warcraft’s Siren Isle named that because there’s a bird native to the island that has a call which sounds like “WEEE-OOOO” and it screams a lot? Is it called that because it was originally going to be called Bob’s Rockin’ Party Island but Bob pulled out of the business deal and they just went with the backup? We don’t know, but what we do know is that it’s the new zone people will be exploring with today’s patch, and it also gives its name to the patch because the Siren Isle patch is much more memorable than “patch 11.0.7” would be.

Of course, players will be spending less time worrying about the reason why it has the name and more time worrying about storms that sweep across the island, enemies that need to be fought off for weekly invasions, earning catch-up gear, and picking up a special ring. There’s also a return to Plunderstorm and timewalking antics, as detailed in the video just below. Keep in mind that the game is going to be experiencing some maintenance as the patch is deployed, though, so keep your eyes peeled for when it comes back online.

WoW’s Retail servers went offline for maintenance at 10 a.m. EST this morning and should be back up by 6 p.m. EST with the update, so you’ve got some time to get caught up.
