When multiplayer and MMO titles shut down, they can either go out with a bang, go out with a whimper, or in the case of Ubisoft’s arena shooter XDefiant, they can go out by unleashing all of its previously planned future updates all at once in its very last content patch.
The final release for the game is sizeable, bringing three new factions in the form of the Wolves, Blood Dragons, and the ubiquitous Assassins; a total of 13 new maps; a Defuse mode, which puts players in corridor-style maps where they have only one life to disable a bomb; the ability to play against bots; and several new weapons. The patch has also unlocked all of the game’s cosmetics for everyone to enjoy.
XDefiant’s executive producer Mark Rubio calls the patch a “last tribute to all of the hard-working people that made this game” and to the shooter’s fanbase. Readers will recall that the game’s June 3rd sunset date came with pink slips for 277 Ubisoft workers.
