The Daily Grind: Are there ‘acceptable levels of jank’ in MMORPGs?

I have to credit MOP’s Chris for the phrase “acceptable levels of jank” here: He used in in a (positive!) conversation we were having about smaller MMORPGs like Project Gorgon and Villagers and Heroes, when he said he liked those games. They may be slightly janky, but it balances out.

And I think he’s right: There is a certain level of jank I am willing to tolerate from an indie if it’s cute and wholesome and doing its best. I wouldn’t necessarily tolerate it out of a slimy game with gross monetization or whatnot, and I wouldn’t tolerate it from a big AAA MMORPG either.

Do you agree? Are there “acceptable levels of jank” in MMORPGs? In which MMOs are you willing to tolerate jank, vs. the ones where you just nope right out?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
