Is there such a thing as an uncanny valley for video game environments? To me, there is. When a place in an MMO never changes — no day/night cycle, no weather, not even a random breeze — it’s unnatural and eerie.

While studios don’t seem to talk about weather effects that much any more, I do appreciate seeing them in my games. And yes, that’s true even when my character’s trudging through a gloomy, rainy day with lower visibility!

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
