The Daily Grind: What’s the best-worst MMO chat mistell you’ve ever seen?

This is not a good game.

PC Gamer had a fun report up on a heartwarming mishap in the Path of Exile 2 community that I thought MMO players could surely relate to: In a nutshell, a player had offered to sell an item and then accidentally sent an angry mistell to an innocent buyer that was meant as a rude comment for a gold spammer. The buyer, called Imagineddy, apologized and logged out, while the seller, N8-97, tried to explain the mishap, but it was too late. So N8-97 posted his story on Reddit, which turned into a whole warm-fuzzies community drama as people canonized poor Eddy. Eventually, Redditors found Eddy in-game and began showering him with gifts. He’s basically been sainted at this point, especially after he told people to stop sending him free loot.

Of course, not every mistell ends with a tearjerker as two polite bros bond over a grimdark OARPG. I saw some real whoppers over the course of my MMO life, people you’d never think were horrible saying the most dreadful things where they thought they’d get away with it, people spilling their extremely private chat (ahem) into public chats. I once saw someone self-out himself as a spy because he was bad at chatting. You really need to be good at chatting to get away with that! My guild even had a meme for oopsy chat when it was boring as we would chant demands for racier mistells.

I wanna hear some funny ones – what’s the best-worst MMO chat mistell you’ve ever seen?
