I’ll admit that today’s topic is taking me into an area in which I’m out of my depth. I’ve done precious little raiding in MMORPGs — not zero, but I would never label myself as a “raider.” If the stakes and pressure and time commitment is low enough, sure, I’ll romp around with a whole crowd of people probably more in the know than I am while we beat up on plus-sized bad guys.
But even I know that not every raid is created equal. Raids are a fiendishly difficult type of content to develop, and sometimes they hit the mark and sometimes not. A truly great raid sees all of these elements converge in success: theming, challenge, rewards, and time.
In your experience over the years, what’s the best-designed MMO raid? What made it so great?
