Shroud of the Avatar preps Easter egg hunts, player dungeon updates, and chaos gear sales

“Spring is a time of renewal and rebirth, but in Shroud of the Avatar, it’s also a time of Chaos!” Thus opens the patch notes-cum-sales pitch for Release 136, which is offering a chaos sword and chaos shield as freebies for those who buy enough bundles of cash shop currency between now and April 6th. What fun.

In terms of playable content that doesn’t require funny money, R136 is primarily about fixes for quests, some minor crafting updates, and player-built dungeon additions in the form of a new troll room without the spawner (in case players want a troll-sized room without the trolls) and updates to a specific set of building pieces. The post further notes how lava pool room issues appear to be fixed and discusses future plans for player dungeons as part of an ongoing revamp.

Finally, the Easter season is going to be celebrated in-game with a dev-run egg hunt happening on Saturday, April 12th, at three different times. Players can get the timing details and all of the update information for R136 in the patch notes.

Longtime MOP readers will know that Shroud of the Avatar is a controversial game in the MMO space. Kickstarted in 2013, the project has been criticized for cutting promised features, crowdfunding excessively, delaying Kickstarter rewards, obfuscating its corporate leadership and office status, and neglecting SEC filings legally required by the game’s equity crowdfunding. In 2019, Richard Garriott company Portalarium sold SOTA to its lead dev and all but exited the game. Press inquires were met with stonewalling and insults, and equity crowdfund investors were abandoned without notice or any semblance of accountability; moreover, the execs began touting a (failed?) blockchain MMO and a battle royale. SOTA itself does still have a tiny playerbase and is technically still receiving minimal development.
