The Daily Grind: How often do you do blind runs of new MMORPG content?

Yes, you get more glowy shit. You play White Mage. You live for that.

Last year, in response to a Daily Grind question about MMO new-content traditions, an MOP reader named Kelly said her tradition was to do “blind runs of all the new content” – meaning no guides and no advice. It caught my attention! I’ve never really gone out of my way to do that. Really, all the way back to Ultima Online and EverQuest, we’ve had copious resources on content, so I usually looked things up beforehand to make sure I had a vague notion of what we were doing – mostly because I hate being a load on my group. I hate making big dumb mistakes and that feeling of embarrassment that comes along with them.

But I can see how it would be super exciting for a group to intentionally block all help and spoilers and go in totally fresh and blind, knowing everyone else is seeing it for the first time and learning it without guidance.

Is this something you commonly do? How often do you do blind runs of new MMORPG content?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
