If you were hoping to set up plans to visit the United Kingdom this year for Star Citizen’s annual CitizenCon event, well, don’t bother because this year will be an all-digital CitizenCon Direct instead, which will broadcast on Saturday, October 11th.
The single-day broadcast is confirmed by CIG to be “shorter than a traditional physical or digital CitizenCon, but it’ll be densely packed with exciting content and reveals” for fans to look forward to. As for those who want to use the event as a reason to hang out among themselves, the studio does promise that it will be arranging in-person Bar Citizen watch parties; otherwise fans can just tune in to Twitch or YouTube when the broadcast airs, time TBD.
But why is the event a single-day livestream instead of a weekend of in-person panels? By the sounds of it, CIG is trying to push Squadron 42 through development in order to reach its currently planned release date for late 2026 and continue its stated focus on improving SC’s stability and playability over new features.
In other SC news, and as first reported by The Nosy Gamer, CIG has put in its 2023 company accounts filing to the UK government this week, which means we may see its financial report sometime next week. That should shed some light on the developer’s spending, resources, and the suggested pressure from investors to see its titles actually cross a finish line.
