Are you looking for a roadmap from your favorite OARPG? Maybe not usually, but you’re probably pretty curious what Blizzard has in store for Diablo IV, especially after the studio admitted back in February that in spite of Blizzard’s original plan to release annual expansions, the game isn’t getting one in 2025.
Well, in its roadmap released this afternoon, Blizzard again confirms that the next expansion isn’t coming until 2026, and when it does, it’ll arrive with a new ranking system and leaderboards. But what’s coming in the meantime is probably more interesting to current players.
“Throughout 2025, you will experience the spread of Mephisto’s influence through new seasonal themes and questlines as we draw closer to the release of our second expansion in 2026,” the studio says. Over the next quarter, expect the return of Belial, Lord of Lies, as well as the second anniversary festivities, a revamp of lair bosses, and a new incursion activity. In late summer, players will “return to Nightmare Dungeons with new activities and interactions that let [them] progress the dungeon’s intensity as [they] hunt down the barons of Hell” in Sins of the Horadrim. Finally, the fall season is dubbed Infernal Chaos and includes new powers that “put new choices into your hands.”
Oh, and heads-up for some incoming transmedia synergy: “In addition to new Seasonal content and permanent game additions, you’ll see on the Roadmap that we are bringing 2 IP collaborations into Diablo IV this year. We can’t shed light on them currently, but we’re extremely excited to meld the Diablo universe with universes that complement its dark themes.”
