Just because Mike Ybarra is no longer with Blizzard doesn’t mean that the former studio president has closed the book on his opinions about how the studio is being run. To point, this week Ybarra posted a pointed critique of Diablo IV’s recent roadmap and its perceived issues.
The key problems, in his opinion, are that Diablo IV is “shipping to check a box,” not pausing to address endgame issues, and taking “too long” to produce expansions with classes and additional activities.
“If the cycle continues to just ship w/o fixing the fundamental issues, then I’m not sure where Diablo is going,” Ybarra posted. “You can add all the end-game activities you want, but you’ll be running in place with the same issues. At some point there’s just so many random things, it’s not worth the effort.”
Ybarra then paused to add, “Anyone can say things. Teams have to understand and do them.”
