The basic goal when World of Warcraft’s development team announced the Season of Discovery for WoW Classic has long been discussed, but a new video from the team this week in the wake of Phase 8 reiterates that point: It was always was to mix up the vanilla game. Not to add new classes or specs, but to change the way the specs worked, to offer new paths and make viable options where they didn’t previously exist, and so forth. That also means even expanding beyond existing content to a point, as has been seen in the Karazhan Crypts dungeon and the new Scarlet Enclave.

Having fun has been a guiding principle for both the developers and the players, according to the video, with a lot of focus placed upon using existing assets but in new ways. And while the team isn’t announcing exactly what’s coming next, the video assures players that the servers aren’t going to be shutting down and that there are things in the pipeline for the future. What those might be remain to be seen, but you can take a trip down memory lane just below.
