The Daily Grind: Which MMO posts the best patch notes in the business?

Back in February, Justin and I discussed No Man’s Sky on the MOP podcast, and I joked that I love to be the staffer who writes up the game’s updates because the patch notes are a work of art.

Seriously, go click on the game’s latest patch notes. It doesn’t even matter when you’re reading this because it’ll still hold true. Hello Games always does a huge splashy spread that looks like a tattered book cover before going on to break down each feature with like a million screenshots and small video clips. By the time you get to the literal list of patch notes, you are completely hyped for the game – so all the effort they are putting in is 100% worth it, and all for a game that doesn’t even charge extra for this content.

It makes me wish more MMOs and MMORPGs went to that kind of trouble. I probably just read a lot more patch notes for a lot more games than the average person, but most of them are pretty boring and they read like a copypasta checklist instead of like, well, easy marketing materials.

I’d love to know what other people think. Which other games have really great patch presentation? Which MMO posts the best patch notes in the business?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
