Access to the Sea of Thieves is going to be expanding yet again on Thursday, May 22nd, when the FFA PvP pirating sandbox makes its berth on the Battle.net launcher along with the official release of Season 16.
The game is already available for pre-purchase, with three different editions on offer that pack in unique cosmetics, gold, and in some cases, access to a beta test scheduled between May 2nd and 5th. The announcement and related FAQ further confirm that cross-platform play and cross-progression will be available.
It should be noted, however, that people who already own the game but want to use the Battle.net launcher will have to buy the game from that storefront specifically. Additionally, players are going to have to sign up for an Xbox Live account and the game can only be played on Windows operating systems.
This addition of a not-Blizzard game on a Blizzard platform will apparently be the first of many, as Blizzard’s official Twitter stated that more first-party Xbox games are coming soon. This would make sense considering that Microsoft purchased Blizzard for billions, so expect the merging of storefront offerings to only grow from here.
