After maintenance-moding Kickstarted tiny MMO Book of Travels, Might & Delight announces Twinkleby

Earlier this year, Book of Travels studio Might & Delight came out with an odd bit of news for the game. It had taken a quarter of a million dollars in Kickstarter money for Book of Travels and launched the tiny-MMO into Steam early access, but progress on the game’s roadmap had all but dried up over the years since following layoffs of part of the team. And then back in February, M&D announced kind of out-of-the-blue that while it would keep the servers running and keep updating the current game build, content updates themselves would be “rare and far in-between.” It was effectively an announcement of maintenance mode and an admission that the Kickstarter and early access content plans are never going to happen, which was obviously disappointing.

But now you might be wondering what the studio has been doing all this time if it’s not working on the game you Kickstarted. It turns out to be a new game entirely. It’s called Twinkleby, and this will likely be the first and last time we talk about it here as there’s no multiplayer component to it.

“Might & Delight are happy to announce Twinkleby – a cosy and relaxing decoration game where you turn floating islands into lovely dioramas and explore a starlit archipelago full of antique collectibles and quirky characters,” the studio announced last week.

“In Twinkleby, you will furnish your Victorian dollhouses and the gardens with an ever-expanding collection of decoration pieces. As you play, flying boats arrive to drop off new residents who make themselves at home on your islands. These peculiar characters will interact with your creations and each other. They all have personalities of their own, and you need to figure out how to make them happy, because they’ll make sure to reward you for it.”

Launch is expected on PC, Mac, and Linux later this year. It’s honestly cute, just a little bit more salt in the Book of Travels wound.
