At the top of the month we first got word about Puzkin: Magnetic Odyssey, an in-development family friendly MMORPG that appears to take child safety very seriously. At the time of that report we knew that there would be a Kickstarter drive but not when and for how much. Well, now we have those details.
The Kickstarter itself started this past Tuesday, April 15th, and is seeking $39,698 in order to help bring what developer Tokkun Studio calls “the ultimate family-friendly sandbox MMORPG” to life. The page once again leads with its intense focus on safety and security for its players by way of gestures and emotes over text and voice chat, hidden usernames, and “carefully crafted moderation systems.”
Of course there’s details about the game as well: Players take on the role of Guardians able to harness the power of magnetic Z Energy, which is used in building, exploration, and combat. Along the way, players will want to capture Mini Puz, which can be used to power up characters and build a wide assortment of things based on their color.
Speaking of combat, Tokkun draws attention to what it calls an active and tactical combat system with multiple attack types, the ability to call Puzkin allies for help, and team-based synergies, both in PvE and PvP. As for more pastoral pursuits, there’s plenty of freeform building, the ability to put together a variety of vehicles, gathering and crafting around the world and on a farm, and an in-game CCG known as Puzkin Clash to play.
As for its monetization, Puzkin plans to be free-to-play with an optional subscription as well as purchasable cash shop currency known as Puzcoins, while that cash shop promises to only offer cosmetics. Those who subscribe will get 2,000 Puzcoins a month, while Tokkun makes it clear that accounts are limited to 2,000 coins a month, with no additional impulse purchases possible and no lockboxes whatsoever.
Kickstarter tiers once again run a wide variety: Bundles include four years’ of subscription time being offered starting at the €150 (or about $171) backer tier and up, while others offer multiple beta access keys, various building items, and unique cosmetics. The drive has so far raised just over $9K at the time of this writing, so we’ll wait and see if this drive – and this game – have the legs.
