From our vantage point, the splitting of Global MapleStory from its Korean version a year ago has been more than a success, with multiple patches and record-high revenues. And now, as the game celebrates its 20th birthday, it’s also getting a classic server.

“We are excited to introduce Global MapleStory: Classic World, a nostalgic experience crafted just for Global MapleStory players,” the devs announced on the celebratory stream last night. “Classic World is a faithful recreation of the old school MapleStory experience, built by a team that understands what made early MapleStory so special.”

The studio even brought back the OG Korean lead dev, Nemi, “to help make this experience as true to the original as possible.” In her preview, she promises to properly support the new version of the game with quality-of-life updates as well as original content. More details are coming in the second half of 2025.

The remainder of the written dev blog touches on some other content coming to GMS itself, including a likely boss power crystal and star force system deviation from the Korean version.
