As promised, Defiance officially launched at 6 a.m. EDT this morning. If you got up at 6 a.m. to play this, you can officially call yourself a true fan. And if you’re currently sitting there thinking, hey didn’t Defiance sunset, then a lil recap is in order: Back on March 11th, Fawkes Games announced that it had licensed Defiance from Gamigo, which currently holds all the old Trion Worlds assets. Fawkes planned to revive the OG transmedia synergy MMORPG – not the 2050 edition – on PC for now.
It does sound as if the launch this morning has had a few issues; Fawkes devs have mentioned disconnections, account creation problems, login faults, and a server restart about 40 minutes into the launch.
“There is a game process (the one in charge of taking people out of the tutorial to the game world) that whenever reaches certain threshold, can’t hold it anymore, causing a cascade effect to other components,” Fawkes says. “This game process was in our list of ‘flags’ but couldn’t be validated/worked-on during the stress due to the difference of users. We are working towards the resolution, again – expect disconnections.”
The game is running free-to-play through Fawkes’ launcher, so everyone is free to jump in. Fawkes has previously said that whether it continues fleshing out the game or merely keeps it online for fans will depend on its success. Wanna see it in action before you try? We’ll be streaming it later today. Have fun, Arkhunters!
