If you have no plans this weekend, are a Star Citizen fan, and are among the Wave 1 and Wave 2 testers that get into the sandbox’s PTU, then you’ve got something being asked of you by CIG: stress test the servers of alpha 4.1.1.

Testing isn’t just a matter of logging in to the PTU and doing whatever floats your space boat: Those who participate will be asked to focus on specific tasks and equipment. Players will be given an RSI Polaris to fly around in all day on Friday, specific ship battles will be the testing focus on Saturday, and the recently added Align and Mine activity will be the targeted activity on Sunday. Each day has specific start times so players should read up for the deets.

In other SC news, the game’s weekly Inside Star Citizen video is out and it’s all about hair. Long, beautiful hair. Shining, gleaming, streaming, flaxen, waxen; it’s all there for those who really, really want to know how their avatars are given the various hairstyles in-game now and coming in later patches.

Finally, this past Thursday kicked off yet another free fly event, making the MMO free-to-play from now until April 28th, along with a selection of six different ships to try out.

Longtime MMORPG gamers will know that Star Citizen was originally Kickstarted for over $2M back in 2012 with a planned launch for 2014. As of 2025, it still lingers in an incomplete but playable alpha, having raised over $800M from gamers over years of continuing crowdfunding and sales of in-game ships and other assets. It is currently the highest-crowdfunded video game ever and has endured both indefatigable loyalty from advocates and immense skepticism from critics. A co-developed single-player title, Squadron 42, has also been repeatedly delayed.
