The Daily Grind: How many people do you have on ignore in your core MMORPG?

I have mentioned in a few places now that the new Glamdring server in Lord of the Rings Online is fairly dreadful in terms of the chat. I know it’s a new server and all, and a ton of people are taking the opportunity to act out in front of a whole new audience, but my ignore list is growing by about a dozen people a day. I keep hoping eventually I’ll get to the end of the people who need to be squelched, but so far, no.

“I have more people on ignore from two weeks on being in Glamdring than from five years of being on Gladden,” one player said a few weeks back, and he’s right. I seldom needed to block anyone on Landroval, and it was usually for something like anti-science idiocy, not deliberate toxicity, blatant racism, the c-word, and so forth.

That’s the one nice thing I can say about Glamdring. A week or so ago, the whole chat shouted down somebody claiming that cancer patients shouldn’t use chemo. The aging playerbase apparently has enough experience with cancer to murder that noise on the spot. But the constant racism, sexism, and homophobia on display has taken my breath away more than once. And it’s barely been a month! Hopefully the LOTRO ignore list doesn’t have a cap like Albion Online’s because I’m clearly gonna need it.
