We’re not sure precisely how bad things may be over at Jackalyptic Games, the Jack Emmert-led dev studio that’s working on a Warhammer 40K MMO, but we at least have an initial report from one former developer that layoffs – plural – have occurred.
The news comes from now-former senior combat designer Jacob Beauseigneur, who announced on LinkedIn earlier this week about his “last day at Jackalyptic Games due to layoffs” and his desire to find new senior game design roles. We once more point out that we don’t know the scope of the referenced layoffs, but tracing things through LinkedIn we found at least one other casualty: former visual design director Brian Hagan. Additionally, the jobs section of the studio’s website shows no postings at the time of writing.
Readers might remember that news about layoffs affecting Jackalyptic has surfaced before, specifically this past January when dev postings on LinkedIn revealed that its partner studio, Counterplay Games, had been shut down. Readers may also recall that there were rumors this past February that claimed NetEase, the owner of Jackalyptic, was looking to sell the studio as part of its divestiture from overseas companies, itself coming to light following the firing of Seattle devs who supported Marvel Rivals.
