Regular viewers of OPTV might be vaguely familiar with Tower Unite, primarily because our Stream Team has broadcast this game a couple of times. For those who aren’t familiar, this multiplayer title is a “virtual party world” centered around a large public plaza that features multiple social spaces, a wide assortment of leisure destinations like a casino, bowling alley, and arcade, and a slew of larger scale games like kart racing, minigolf, wave survival, and competitive FPS. The game is effectively a reinvention of the original GMod Tower that was made by the same developer, PixelTail Games, and entered early access back in 2016.

After nine long years in early access and a wide assortment of updates and additions that have introduced things like a rideable roller coaster, custom minigolf course creation, integration of video game emulation engines, and a boardwalk full of various carnival games and attractions, Tower Unite has officially left early access. “Inspired by our love of theme parks, arcades, resorts, and a metric ton of love for gaming, we’ve been creating a loving place that has endless entertainment and fun,” PixelTail writes. “We’re so happy to give it a big welcome in its 1.0 state!”

The 1.0 patch itself is actually fairly small in terms of content, mostly adding some updates to the customizable condo housing feature and crushing bugs, but its the final part of a longer series of “Road TU 1.0” updates that have been focused on performance and quality-of-life. As for post-launch plans, PixelTail promises features like cooking, adoptable pets that can be cared for and live in condos, VR support, and of course more game types and maps for existing games.

For those who find any of this interesting, the game is $20 on Steam but is on a 30% discount until April 26th. You can also check out the associated launch trailer below to get a look at what to expect.
