It would seem like this month is all about bringing back the classics: Readers will no doubt recall that ArenaNet was holding a 20th anniversary for the original Guild Wars with some ramped-up and returned item drops along with a special anniversary collection of the MMORPG. It would appear that the occasion – and perhaps the goodies – were enough to draw in droves of players.
Take, for example, the Steam edition of the game, which saw it hit an all-new concurrency peak of 682 players this month on the platform. For context, the last time numbers were that high was back in August 2014. Granted, the vast majority of MMO players do not actually access the game through Steam, and the $7 version of the game isn’t even available there, but it’s still a good sign: If Steam is up, the whole game is probably doing pretty well as far as the numbers we can’t see too.
One fan who goes by PalwaJoko on Reddit shared a gallery of screenshots from the event. “Floored seeing all these players population so much of the game. Been a fun blast from the past,” he remarked. Overall it’s been a pretty successful resurgence for a major milestone.
