The Daily Grind: When have you paid too much for an MMO?

I think if you’re a certain age or remember the early days of MMOs, you probably have a baseline for how much they should cost: probably something like $50 and $15 a month, give or take, then about $50 again for expansions. Realistically, though, most MMOs don’t feel worth that much even nearly three decades later. That’s counterintuitive, right?

And yet that’s exactly the reaction I had recently when I saw New World’s Rise of the Angry Earth expansion go on sale and still seem overpriced to me given how it’s already a year and a half old. I’m willing to pay for my MMOs, but I don’t want to overpay for them, given the context of the rest of the genre. Or maybe I just didn’t want it as badly as I thought I did.
