When last we looked in on Funcom-published cozy survival sandbox Aloft, it was pushing out its first big early access update, Critters & Wonders, just after having sold 100,000 copies since its January early access launch. It’s doubled that number now – and it’s celebrating with a promotional good deed.
“To celebrate Earth Day and reaching 200,000 sales during Early Access, Astrolabe will donate 5% of the net revenue earned during the Earth Appreciation Steam Festival to the Cool Earth Initiative,” the studio announced today. “Cool Earth’s mission is to support communities to protect rainforests and tackle climate change. On Earth Day, April 22, content creators around the world will livestream in partnership with Cool Earth to raise money that goes directly to the indigenous peoples with the knowledge, skills, and determination to protect the world’s most critical rainforests.” You can check out influencers’ streams for the event through the Cool Earth website.
We scoped out the game itself back in January, finding it a solid and beautiful entry into survival sandbox genre, if a little light on combat. It’s got some fierce competition too thanks to the multitude of other floating-island survival sandboxes out in the last year, but we’re looking forward to lots more content for this one coming over the course of 2025, including improved combat and more animal content.
