Wuthering Waves previews its first anniversary event, but players are miffed about stingy rewards

Gacha RPGs are, by their very nature, predicated on making people spend money to pull the digital lottery machine to get characters, making the currency that grants these pulls extremely valuable. So with that framing, some of the free rewards being handed out by Kuro Games for the April 29th first anniversary of Wuthering Waves has ended up making players feel like they’ve pretty much been shortchanged.

Some of the freebies being handed out during the upcoming anniversary include 15 radiant tides and five forging tides (aka gacha pull currencies) for logging in, along with additional currencies for taking part in various events, multiple character banner reruns, a new glider skin, and two new characters. Overall, most players felt as if the announcements just fell short.

As player backlash began to mount, Kuro Games put out a follow-up announcement that apologized for the limited rewards and the disappointment in what was shown off for the anniversary. The studio also confirmed that a login event going live later this week would offer up more gacha currencies for players. However, that hasn’t quite mollified some players, as they point out that there still isn’t any guarantees on getting wanted characters even with the extra pulls – even on the special event banners.

The event’s bellyflop has mostly overshadowed what’s otherwise a content update that’s coming with the anniversary, which will also include a new character story, improved visuals and performance, the end of cooldowns for taking on a boss fight after initial victories, and the RPG’s arrival to Steam. Kuro Games also announced a collaboration with the anime Cyberpunk: Edgerunners in 2026.
