Gamers of a certain vintage will likely recall that one of the first instances of a big head mode was in the original NBA Jam, but was also most popularized in the Nintendo 64 FPS GoldenEye, where the unlockable cheat would swell character noggins up to giant sizes in single-player and multiplayer. Well if you’re within that age bracket, then you’re being directly served in Marvel Rivals when the hero shooter gets its own big head mode. And even if you’re too young to remember this kind of goofiness, you’re still invited.
The so-called Giant-Size Brain Blast game mode will bring up to 12 players together to fight it out in standard matches, only everyone will be sporting a gigantic nugget like some weird Funko Pop figure sporting extra detail (and actual facial features like human eyes). Those who complete 10 matches in this mode will earn a new emote and title rewards, while those who score within the top 500, top 100, and top 10 of leaderboards for each hero will also get additional titles. Giant-Size Brain Blast will run for two weekends, between April 25th and 28th, and then again on May 2nd through 5th.
Meanwhile Rivals’ latest patch has added costume dyeing functionality, though it should be noted that the dyes are preset color schemes for cash shop outfits currently, and dyes must further be purchased by converting 600 units (earnable currency) or lattice (cash shop currency) in to a new currency known as unstable molecules. Because this is a free-to-play game and these things can never just be simple.
Finally, the shooter is casting spotlights over its UI design and music for those who would rather appreciate the art work that goes into the game and not the monetization work.
