Some Final Fantasy XIV servers have already chewed through much of the new Cosmic Exploration content

Sure, players of Final Fantasy XIV can gather and craft anywhere, but the latest patch to the MMORPG now lets them gather and craft on the moon. This week saw patch 7.21 deploy, bringing with it the tentpole Cosmic Exploration feature that lets players on a server come together to gather, craft, and build their way up to completing a moon base.

For players who were maybe around in the game during the initial steps of Ishgardian Restoration, this feature works similarly: Players are urged to bring together needed materials through an assortment of different missions or taking part in FATE-like projects in order to expand a lunar home base, open up new regions of the map surface, and unlock different convenience features for the activity as well as a variety of rewards such as new gathering and crafting tools, new dyes, and new mounts and pets.

Unfortunately, it would appear that some servers are already absolutely chewing through the new content. Several players are reporting that the progression steps offered at the dawn of the patch’s release have already been completed within mere hours, leaving them to effectively not join in on a larger communal activity due to work or life obligations. Others are arguing that everything is fine or otherwise point out that the last phase has a much longer prep timer. Players can incidentally see where their server’s progress stands on a dedicated site.

In other FFXIV news, there’s yet another album full of music from the Dawntrail expansion, specifically the songs from the last patch’s Arcadion raid series, dungeon, and trial fight. This fifth EP is now available to download on digital platforms for those who need those notes in their ears.
