You know, if MMO studios didn’t have to spend so much of their time and money and energy on addressing cheaters, we’d all be a lot richer for it. That’s the takeaway from the latest Throne and Liberty developer video, where Amazon’s Tico has to devote the majority of his discussion to fair play in the game.
Apparently, some grown-ass adults thought it would be hilarious to exploit a bug whereby they farmed rune chests in Dimensional Trials while attacking bosses that couldn’t fight back. Those players have now had their accounts flagged ineligible for further participation and will be booted off the leaderboards. Notably, players who didn’t cheat at Dimensional Trials are getting an extra 600 precious rune chests on top of their regular prizes.
The hundred or so players who were accidentally granted extra matchmaking boxes won’t be penalized. “Part-time” AFK macroers and botters will also be suspended for three days. Two EU players were also banned over an arc weapon crafting exploit; the studio wiped their weapons and manually confirmed that no other arc weapons in the game are illegitimate.
“Our work on this front continues, but we are committed to identify and take disciplinary action action against these players,” Tico concludes. He also tells players that the team is working on post-Talandre performance, tier 2 progression issues, upcoming fast-track events, the Loot Goblin festival, trait resonance, and HUD-editing.
