Co-op RPG Hyper Light Breaker leans into ‘a more traditional roguelike experience’ with next week’s patch

Get ready for a “game changer” in the form of the first big early access patch for Hyper Light Breaker, a co-op roguelike that we’ve been watching for some time now. Studio Heart Machine said that the April 29th update is going to lean even harder into the roguelike structure of the game with higher risk and rewards.

“Inspired by player feedback, the upcoming update will introduce the most significant feature overhaul yet with a complete rework of the game’s run structure, as players will now have one life for each run and when they die they will lose items in their inventory, and the Overgrowth will reset,” the studio said. “This change was made to balance the game around a more traditional roguelike experience, turning each run into a more consistent and rewarding ‘zero to hero’ adventure than before.”

The patch will also introduce an improved onboarding tutorial, caves to explore, and a new Breaker named Rondo.

We took a look at Hyper Light Breaker back in January and concluded that it needed more time to bake — so maybe this patch is a sign of that?
