Fractured Online takes a deep-dive into its new class system’s archetypes, skills, and gear

This past weekend saw another chonky info drop from Fractured Online’s new team as developer Happy Cauldron Games came together in another livestream to discuss its plans for the sandbox MMORPG’s class system updates.

The class system is being built with four pillars in mind: character identity, visual fidelity, archetype diversity, and options within each archetype. At the heart of it all are archetypes, though they’re not fixed classes so much as combinations of selected skill trees that fall into several categories like race trees, class trees, and weapon proficiencies, all of which confer different permanent passives, interchangeable passives, and interchangeable active abilities.

The other major piece of the class puzzle is gear, which will be set-based and specific to certain armor types in order to visually identify the kind of archetype a player is putting together. Despite how limiting this reads on paper, Happy Cauldron assures fans that this opens up hundreds of unique archetypes and thousands of different combinations.
