Sci-fi voxel sandbox Cubic Odyssey scales back its ambitious design for its May 14 launch

With a demo on the market, over 100,000 wishlists so far, and a 2025 release window in view, Gaijin’s Cubic Odyssey is hoping to storm players’ hearts this year with its “Minecraft meets No Man’s Sky” premise: The game is planning to launch on May 14th, 2025 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.

Game Director Andrei Lopata sat down for an interview with Games Radar earlier this month to talk about the project so far, saying that the team was working hard to realize this “ambitious vision — a massive MMO with millions of stars to explore,” yet realized that it would have to scale back its scope for the start to make sure that Cubic Odyssey could deliver “a strong, polished core experience” at launch.

“I see Cubic Odyssey as a mix of heroic adventure, exploration, and survival game,” Lopata said. “I hope it becomes a lasting experience that resonates with players for years to come. My ultimate wish is that people will casually say to one another, ‘I play Cubic Odyssey,’ as it becomes a game they return to and share with friends.”

The voxel sandbox’s been quite chatty in dev blogs over the past month, talking about weapon types, the adorable QB-1 companion, inventory management, and its three game modes. The title also launched an official Discord channel if you want to go chat with other cube-heads.
