Would you believe that Defiance has already been open for two whole weeks? I can’t, but that’s because April somehow felt like four months and four minutes to my brain. But it’s true, and Fawkes Games has posted a memo to players catching everybody up on the state of the game.
“[W]e knew bringing back to life a game that closed almost 4 years ago wasn’t going to be an easy ride,” the team says. “We are in a point that we can officially say we sorted the major problems” – including the lag, the “try again” login bugs, most of the random disconnections, and the capacity limits for servers.
But Fawkes does say it’s still working on some specific issues. It’s planning on increasing shard size, for example, and it’s peeped a memory leak in the OG game that it’s now tackling. As for the cash shop, it’s apparently been slow to deploy purchases, but that’ll be fixed this week (it was a bug with Fawkes’ overhaul of the old Glyph payment system).
Also worth noting is that the team is granting a day of sub time to non-subbers and three days to subbers in compensation for the hiccups at the launch.
Finally, the team discusses some of the upcoming content still on deck for restoration:
“We will be slowly deploying all the DLCS in a different form as they were used to be. We will provide the gameplay related content (like Castithans’ Arena or Arkbreaker Arkfalls) for FREE while moving the cosmetic elements from them into the store. The first FREE DLC will be most-likely coming up next week and looks like it will have a pale skin. […] We are aware that the game is still missing certain ‘scheduled’ content that was available permanently or on schedule in the past, like the Shrill Arkfalls. We will be also addressing those. Please, let us know in Missing Content what’s left and requires our attention.”
