Hardcore leaguers died nearly 300,000 times in the first few weeks of Path of Exile 2’s Dawn of the Hunt

There’s been kind of a lot of grumbling about Path of Exile 2 in the wake of the Dawn of the Hunt update a month ago. While we can’t see numbers on console as always, the game is currently in the “mostly negative” recent reviews tier over on Steam (compared to mostly positive in general) – and the chronology suggests it really is mostly Dawn of the Hunt’s fault, specifically all the nerfs, slow leveling, and mismatched combat – all stuff Grinding Gear has acknowledged. Also not helping the situation is that the game is still very much in early access and going through all the early access trials and tribulations, but also people paid full freight for it and definitely aren’t thinking of it as a beta, so you know, one of those.

Well, now Grinding Gear Games has released an infographic touting some of Dawn of the Hunt’s big numbers, at least from its first three weeks. The studio says y’all cleared 3.4 million maps, that you glommed on to the Amazon, and that you died nearly 300,000 times in hardcore leagues. What might be the most interesting to me is that extra stats the team included after the big numbers: Some of the ascendancy classes are just not being played much. Less than one percent of players are bothering with the Monk’s Acolyte of Chayula, for example. Seems like a good bet that once the craze for the new shinies is over, buffs for the underplayed toons are incoming.
