People seem to really like Overwatch 2’s Stadium mode – and that includes MOP’s own Tyler. That substantial boost in popularity has very obviously gotten the attention of the shooter’s director Aaron Keller, so fans are likely going to be happy to note that a lot more Stadium is coming down the pike.
In the near-term, hero balancing is going to be a primary focus for Stadium mode as Blizzard confirms it will be collecting data “over the next few weeks” in order to assess build and hero balance. More insights and details are promised in a future dev blog, but an earlier AMA did answer questions about how the team decides on hero powers, confirmation that matchmaking needs improvement, and assessment of feedback and data to address snowballing.
As for the future of Stadium, a roadmap was provided that confirmed plans to add on to and improve the mode through “Season 19 and beyond”: Listed updates include the addition of Freja to the roster in a mid-season patch for Season 16, the ability to save and share builds in Season 17, more maps and a new payload race game mode that will add two new maps in Season 18, and the addition of consumables, a draft mode, and more heroes added every season further into the future.
