Survival sandbox MMORPG Dune: Awakening – yes that’s what it is in spite of Funcom’s nearly impressive mental gymnastics – is heading for a large-scale beta this weekend, and that means the studio is making sure that players know what to expect in terms of content, technical requirements, and other related matters.
This upcoming test promises the first 20 to 25 hours of the MMO’s wider campaign and gameplay, the CHOAM building set for base-building, “early and early mid-game combat,” buildable sand bikes, and three regions in the form of Hagga Basin South and the Eastern and Western Vermillius Gap. This portion also makes sure to sell folks on what will otherwise be available at launch including nine more regions, more vehicles, and the Landsraad.
The post also points out the ways players can get into the test, details the minimum and recommended PC specs (which don’t seem that unreasonable overall), and provides some other details in an FAQ including confirmation that beta character progress will not carry over into launch, a promise that Funcom will spool up “much more hardware” to support the beta, and the assurance that players will get “a solid feel” for the MMORPG overall.
It’s all spelled out for those who are looking to get in there, but if you’d rather not try your hand at playing this yourself, then make sure to tune in to OPTV this Friday night at 8:00 p.m. EDT, when MJ and Larry will be roaming around the desert together.
